Sony Introduces 200-Disc Blu-ray Media Center

Posted September 5, 2007 07:23 PM by Josh Dreuth

Blu-ray DiscSony Electronics has introduced the HES-V1000, Blu-ray media center with a 500GB hard drive and 200-disc changer. Digital content stored on the machine, such as music and photos, will be accessable through a XMB cross-bar menu (similar to the one found on the PS3). The HES-V1000 is expected to be available sometime in October for approximately $3,500.

That's only $17.50 per disc. Ok, Sony it's time to make the $17.50 blu-ray player and end this war.

Eh..I've never really been impressed with multi-disc players. They're cool in principle, but typically too lacking in quality to be a worthwhile purchase. Especially with a price of $3,500.

I want a 5 disc changer. 200 is a bit much and that price tag is kinda ridiculous right now.

Wow. I'm going to have to get a job at NASA to afford the prices of these new Sony players. Ridiculous.

Seriously, how many people would really buy this? We need something the average person would buy.

what i see is people bashing SONY for expanding the blu-ray market. the low cost players will get here. SONY and the BDA know this..why is people entertaining the thought of FUD being spread to get people worried over nothing. come on people.

the more high end the more level the CE companies can make some cash. cut throat priceing is what Toshiba and Microsoft has done to get PEOPLE to DOUBT Blu-Ray as a Viable Format and it seem's to be working. its just people are getting worked up over nothing. the BDA is not takeing this format war for granted. they are not dropping the ball. look at the fact that not only at IFA did the BDA gain more hardware support. but also showed off low cost blu-ray production players.

i say sit back and relax..the $199.00 players will get here in time. but its more important to the CE companies in the BDA to make some kind of MONEY instead of UNDER CUTTING the cost of players so other companies in the CE industry could not make their OWN players. and that is the problem with HD DVD. the keep touting low cost players but to other CE companies Blu-Ray is the way to go.

My brother had his Sony 400 disc DVD player for 3 long years, and finally gave up on it, for the fact it was so hard to use. I wish when big companies made products like this (I am not saying that this product is going to bad in any way) that they would employ common people like me that like techy stuff to test it out. I only say this, because I to hated (can you tell) his 400 disc DVD player and I can only hope this one is good for $3500.

Posted this in the other news comment area but I think it needs repeating. CEDIA is for custom installers. The folks that spend a $100k on a home theatre without blinking an eye. CES is where the low cost players will most likely be announced unless some sneak out before Christmas.

Guys, am I the only one thinking this is a big rip off? I love Sony and will support BD to the last drop of blood and I am glad that Sony is REALLY throwing their weigt behind BD offering excellent choices of players...But this player, with the exception of adding a $100 SATA 500GB disk, will only have ONE BLU LASER, ONE OPTICAL READING DEVICE..etc, Everything else is from the same mechanism of the $350 Mega 400-DVD Changer Sony allready makes. all they did is replace the DVD red laser and reading mechanism with the newer BLURAY electronics/board...etc. And they want us to pay oer theree grand for this? I think me will skip this jewel until xmas of 08. i think I would be all over it right now, if it was priced at $1000-$1500, not $3,500....we already have PS3's, xbox360's, and network-based disks that can be accessed via the PS3 and XBOX360 GUI's.....just saying, its a great device but asking WAY too much! I would much rather throw my money on a $2500 Denon 4308CI that will FINALLY support Lossless DTS-MA and Dolby TrueHD

They have to offer high end products as well. Im sure some people will be interested in this, but obviously not many. And as for "are there really 200 bds out there right now worth buying?" well that depends on your preferences (ive only got 24) but surely you realise more BDs will be released?

As for those of you pleading for a $200 BD player, it will not happen anytime soon. BDA members refuse to lose money on each player sold. THE ENTIRE REASON THERE ARE SO MANY CE COMPANIES SUPPORTING BLURAY IS BECAUSE THEY WANT TO MAKE MONEY!! Besides the PS3 is what will win it for bluray, standalones are just bonus.
