It would be great if Sony would add Dolby True HD and DTS HD MA decoding for the BDP-S300 in next update. More movies are coming out with these and less with the Uncompressed PCM 5.1 audio tracks.
Yes... I want them to add Dolby True and DTS HD too... The main thing for me is the speed to which the system turns on and loads disks. It seems the system has to cold boot every time, but I'd rather them cache information for the system so that boots and load more quickly.
The speed isn't terrible, but its annoying at times.
I think the only updates we will ever see are java updates. They can't upgrade the amount of memory on the unit so we will never have things cached and no internet connection so no profile 2.0 Plus they much rather you buy a new player then give you freebies.
Ever since upgrading to the 3.80 firmware i am noticing problems with playing MOST blu-rays, i.e. when attempting to play "The Guardian" and "World Trade Center" i have the player freeze on the "your movie is about to start" resulting in me having to turn off/on the player, basically theses 2 titles dont play anymore when they have done with previous firmware versions, not only that but MOST blu rays i attempt to play the "player" freezes resulting in me having to power of the player, keep it powered off for 30 seconds, turn it back on and it plays. The reason i post this is im interested in finding out if anyone else is having similar problems ?!
There's a new firmware version out now!
To Carlsberg: I have been experiencing problems like the ones you describe aswell...hopefully they will fix in the new update.
3.80 was a step backwards - a real turkey. A few movies loaded faster, while most of the others actually loaded more slowly. 3.90 seems to have it back in check, but still not like 3.70.
What good are to great audio features if it slows down the loading of the movie?
We have never had to update since purchasing ours Nov. 07, we have a BDP S300 and just bought the new National Treasure movies, the previews play great but when the movie loads it freezes on the play movie. I have not yet updated and a am unsure if this is really something I want to do. All other blueray movies we have work great except these new disney ones. Any suggestions? I also am unsure of how to update the firmware. Do yu burn it to a dvd on the computor then load it in the player?
I just had the same problem with Face/Off. The disc played for half of the movie, then froze. Now, it
keeps saying "cannot play disc." I had already upgraded the firmware, but that has not helped.
Yes, you burn the firmware to a cd as an image, then load into your BR player.
I just got my BDPs300, do I have to install Firmware Update (v3.80), all the things I'm reading make
me suspicious and If I don't update will m player one day stop working?
etart- Don't install 3.8- if you just got the player, it should already be at 3.8. Go to the Sony Website and download 3.9 and then extract it- ( I think the Mac uses Stuffit for this?). Once there, you will have a file with a .iso extension. Using a standard CD, open your burning program (I use Nero) and add the file- Nero automatically configures the file to burn an image CD which is what you want. If you don't do the updates, your machine will continue to work BUT you may find fewer and fewer discs that will play on it. I updated to 3.9 and saw a marked improvement in loading speed and have not had any freezing, etc. that has been referred to here time and again. Another suggestion, set the Player's menu to 24FPS if your TV will support it- you should notice an improvement doing that as well.
Since installing 3.95, my stop resume does not work if I press stop once it displays resume off
and the movie starts over again, also some discs dont play right it gets stuck on close and then I have to unplug the machine to get them out as it becomes unresponsif, any help would be appreciated thanks.
