There is an updated firmware available for this unit.
< BD-P1500 Firmware Ver 2.3 >
Date: Jan.07, 2009
This Firmware update provides the following benefits:
1. Improves playback compatibility of some movie titles.
WARNING: This upgrade will render some Blu-ray menu java script unreadable, and the blu-ray disc unplayabe. Example: The Firday the 13th disc UK region-free. Play fine on the 1.3 firmware (080808_01_BDP1500_XAA) but NOT when firware is upgraded to this 2.3 version (from Jan 2009). This happened to my BD-P1500 player.
Also, according to other forum reprots, this firmware upgrade will restrict playback capabilities on Blu-ray media burned to DVD-R (thought I've never done this myself, it might be worth doing some research on before performing the upgrade).
I have the same problem that Rooster is having ... my DVD+-R/W discs won't play in this unit after I updated the firmware to 2.4 from Samsung US site ... prior to firmware update, this unit played with no problem DVD+-R/W discs, even with scratch on it, but now it simple won't play any ... the player shows "No Disc" legend on panel and screen ... Any thoughs or solution to this problem ??? ... thanks in advance ...
After updating to 2.4, The Matrix 10th Anniversary Edition will not play without the Picture-in-Picture commentary. A google search reveals that is is a common problem with 2.4 and that it impacts other titles as well. Samsung refuses to make 2.3 available on their site for FW downgrade. I would suggest holding off on updating from 2.3 to 2.4 until all issues are resolved.
My player notified me of the update (2.5) yesterday and hesitantly I installed it. It seems to be working good. The issues with the Matrix and other titles that I had problems with seem to be resolved.
don't upgrade to 2.5. Menu problems with certain DVD-R's and some Universal Non-blu-ray titles. I had to send my unit in for repair. Samsung is aware there is an issue but they don't have a firmware fix for it yet. beware.
Did anybody experience the same problem has me... I've upgrade to 2.5 and then I've watch The Watchmen (blu-ray) didn't have any problem. After that I've tried to watch a dvd-r and I had the NO DISC notification, I've tried a regular dvd and I had the same problem NO DISC. (tried with 4 other dvd) same problem.
I think it's ridiculous that I've contacted Samsung about the 2.5 upgrade, and that I'm having problems playing DVD's no disc appears. They told me I would have to send my unit in for repair at my expense no way!!!!!!!
Yeah they told me the same thing... One fee of 85$ dollars to check what's the problem and a minimum of 90$ to repair... Thanks for the update f**kers.
My 1500 stopped playing DVDs awhile back. I actually am pretty sure its not a firmware thing, just a sucky player thing. Same thing, they want me to send it in for $90. I only paid like $150 for it, so no thanks.
