Thanks to Samsung & blu-ray.com for making this recent firmware update 1.3 for the Samsung BDP-1000 available.
I became aware of my need for this update when trying to play any of the new Blu-ray "Die Hard" 4-pack. My machine would not play the disks, and the package included a flyer describing some new features, and suggested the most recent update. Good tip.
The bigger satisfier in this dual update is a much shorter drawer open-close and load time. KUDOS Samsung!
The pdf update instructions (Canada / US) however needs some tweeking. I get an error message when trying to view or print the file saying that I do not have the correct PDF viewer version loaded (Korean). I suggest the US version of the file should be supported by the US version of Adobe... Good thing I've done this before = Burn the update file to CD. Play the CD in your player. Follow the on-screen promts. And DO NOT STOP THE PROCESS until your player automatically spits out the disk on its own. Then enjoy!
Hi everyone,
I am from Mexico and i bought this product (Samsung BP-1000) here. I just noticed about the firmware update for Canada and the US only. Should it be the same for mexicans blu-ray players if i boutght it at an american store (SAM´s)?
I really wish Samsung would keep up on their firmware upgrades! My BDP-1000 is skipping on almost every other blu-ry title I buy Since 1.3 upgrade...really frustrating!!!

I have the same frustration with this older player. I've since purchased a PS3 and let me tell you that the PS3 blows this player away. The movies load super fast and if you have a wired/wireless network connection, the firmware updates are easy to process.
I agree, it makes me mad also. Couldn't believe it didn't come with a USB port to update from your computer. Luckily, mine is only used in my bedroom, and I have my PS3 in my theater room or I would go crazy. Very upset with Samsung, pretty soon I'm worried they want update it at all.
I am having no success upgrading the firmware on my BDP-1000. Everytime I try to load the CD with the firmware, I get a "No disc found" error. At first, I thought, I was not correctly burning the firmware so I even requested Samsung to send me a firmware upgrade CD but last evening, I got the same error message "No disc found" with the CD that Samsung sent me.
Does anyone have suggestions on how to fix this? I am tired of the long drawer open-close times and also am unable to play CARS, SPIDERMAN3, etc...
Has anyone else noticed that after v1.5, dialog is no longer predominately coming from the center speaker on the newer BR discs?
What I've been hearing is either no dialog or it is pushed out to the L/R speakers making it difficult to follow movies. On one film (I think Pathfinder--about the young Viking who grew up among the Indians of the NE America about 1000 AD) There was no dialog at any volume coming from the center speaker only slight echos from the L/R speakers.
I also use a HDDVD player for upconverting and of course HD DVD discs with a Lexicon MC-4 and this works perfectly.
Haven't had that problem. I updated my firmware again in May, I no longer have any problems. They still need to work on their updates, especially for their customers like me who paid $1000 or more for their players. Don't forget about us. I'm tempted to buy another PS3 since Wal*Mart is running that special for $399 and you get a $100 giftcard with purchase.
See they added a new firmware a week or so ago. Just called Samsung to get mine, but, I'm worried this just might be the last update for this player, since the 1000 and 1200 have been official discontinued. Guess I'm going to have to get another PS3 or breakdown and get another player that allows bitstreaming since the PS3 doesn't.
Couldn't wait on the update disc, so, I burned the ISO file myself, and updated my player, The Spiderwick Chronicles still will not play, just says loading...... over and over. Have to try it in my PS3 to see if I have a bad disc or not. Before the update, the loading screen never appeared.
Called Samsung, they do not know when there next update will be out. Told them they need to support their older players more, or they will find their current customers will not upgrade to their newer products because they will not be properly supported.
Crap, crap, crap. Now I'm even more po'd. Just bought Bucket List and Cloverfield, and can't watch either one of them. I'm buying a PS3 next week. I hate Samsung.
Got my PS3, called Samsung, and told them they will never get another dollar from me, or my family. Bought 5 more blu-ray discs and they all play on my PS3, on the Samsung I moved upstairs, they never get past the loading screen, WTF!
did u tried to roll back the firmware to 1.3 and then upgrade to 1.6 by one step instead of installing 1.3,1.4,1.5 and 1.6 one after the other...? When i did that, it fixed the skipping playback in some movies .Looks unrelevant but it worked with me.
Just got some tips from another forum, clean your Bluray player, and then after you take the disc out, hold the FF button down for 4 or 5 seconds on your Samsung player, not the remote, and it will reset it similar to what happens after you do an update. I did this and now all of my movies play perfectly, all the ones that use to not play. Apparently he told me when you update your players it takes up the memory in the player, sort of like temp files on your computer. Hope this helps some of you. All the times I talked to Samsung not one of their techs told me this.
I just used a dvd cleaner disc. Then, after I did that, I held down the FF button for 4 or 5 seconds, and the player will cut off, sorta like a reboot. That deletes the memory used by the old firmware and the memory the discs create when played. I believe when your done updating your firmware, it cuts off like a reboot, and is suppose to delete this old information, but, in some players, it must not happen. I no longer have any problems playing new discs now. Hope this helps.
