Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has officially announced that it will release on 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018). The two releases will be available for purchase on March 19.
Studio description: SPIDER-MAN: INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE, a film that has grossed over $350 million in theaters worldwide to date, introduces Brooklyn teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the iconic mask."One of the most rewarding experiences in recent months has been to hear that children are telling their parents that they see themselves in Miles, or that they want to grow up to be like Spider-Gwen, anyone can be a hero. Thats why we made this film, and we hope that feeling of empowerment is something that both audiences young and old can take away," say Directors Bob Persichetti, Peter Ramsey, and Rodney Rothman.

All-New Original Short "Spider-Ham: Caught In a Ham" It's another normal day for Peter Porker, a.k.a. the Spectacular Spider-Ham, fighting bad guys and loving hot dogs, until a mysterious portal starts messing with the very fabric of his cartoon reality.
I hope it doesn't come out in March in the UK as I have two big pre-orders due already next month, and I can't afford all three at once. Fingers crossed for April release.
Alternate Universe Mode has my interest. I know from interviews that this production went through a great many changes and we know just from the trailers that there is cut content. I wonder what all this includes. Lord confirmed on Twitter that they recorded some stuff regarding mainline Parker recognizing Gwen but it never made the cut (pretty obvious such an emotional scene would hijack the story but it'd still be nice to see what they planned)
I still want to know what, if anything, is unique about the limited edition other than the packaging. Hopefully, amazon will price-mistake? it like they did Venom. Wouldn't pay more than a buck more for just a clear case and different slip though.
Best movie of the year, great mind blowing visuals, saw this twice and was well worth my time in the theaters seeing, it explored the spider-man origin story in more ways than one.
The partnership between Columbia and Marvel has really revitalized Spider-man the IP as a whole, and now to be working with the folks at Sony Pictures Animation provides it an opportunity to be told in many more ways for many generations of children and families alike.
With a sequel and spinoffs on the way, there are surely many more spider-men and women that can be added to this universe and to its world.
Day 1 for me if I only had the shelf space to buy physically as unfortunately I've ran out of shelf space, Day 1 on Movies Anywhere than as my first title transitioning to streaming full time.
@Miner4Life99 - I have a problem with cartoons. I don't like them. Quite frankly, their target demographic is children and overgrown man-babies who can't say goodbye to their adolescence. Sure, there are a few exceptions like The Simpsons, but they are very few indeed. This animated Spiderman movie is what, the 8th Spiderman movie in the last 15 years? The third franchise reboot since 2002? Correct me if I'm wrong. If people didn't eat these retreads up with a spoon, maybe, just maybe, studios would be inclined to produce a story you haven't seen a thousand times. Just a thought.
Will check out the 4K at some point. Thought this movie looked terrible so I skipped it in theaters, but the reviews/word-of-mouth have convinced me to watch it eventually.
@Sorcerer 2001-
Your comment reeks of irony because INTO THE SPIDER-VERSE is really a totally original story that's never been seen on screen before. This isn't a retread of any of the earlier Spider-Man films. It's a genuinely funny, smart, original, surprising, exciting film that was animated in a completely breathtaking style that's cinematically original and like nothing ever seen in a movie before, animated or live action. You'd know that if you spent more time experiencing NEW things instead of simply telling yourself you know ALL things.
I don't know... I might assume someone who summarily dismisses entire art forms, based on an uneducated and inexperienced bias, to be a child or overgrown man-baby.
I'd say I need more details on the Limited Edition, but it's blu-ray only, and I'm looking for 4k. I preordered the Zavvi Steelbook 4k, but I'm really hoping that isn't the final artwork. Any info out there?
Could @sorcerer have made himself look like even more of a dolt with his justification? I think not. And @soulreaper, no thanks lol I am not gonna pay 60 bucks just to get the steel. (Not that I’m above doing that). If the steelbook were a bit nicer, like that purple-ish one that’s getting released in foreign territories then I definitely would. The black and red is nice but not enough to double dip like that
So is criticizing a movie you haven't actually seen and insulting people who have for liking it. You're clearly peak internet. Now start talking about SJW and how inclusion is ruining movies for you.
But please... continue telling the class about how we're overgrown man-babies for liking something you have no knowledge of.
I saw this film, and enjoyed it for what it is, but to me it is pretty overpraised.
The story is fine, it is a stretch to say it is unlike any story we have ever seen before.
The animation is sometimes great, and in other ways, pretty marred and distorted. You can see the stretch lines where it did not work well.
Whether they wanted this impact as a style choice to emulated a comic, maybe, I don't care though. It is a pretty ugly background, and the backstory on film production indicated that the new methods were iffy. It got a free pass from most viewers it seems, but the blurred and halo lines are pretty distracting and not pleasing to me. And to declare this is a best movie of the year, well, I just don't see it that way at all.
Really?!? Name one other Spider-Man or any other super-hero film that tells this same story.
And yes... they absolutely wanted this look like the 4 color printing process notable from decades of comic books had come to life. Those of us (really most of us) who loved the film and/or its look aren't giving it a free pass. That's condescending to imply that only your negatives have value in the face of everyone else's "free pass" positives. There's very specific things I love about it that I can explain in detail if you'd like to be enlightened. Whether or not you liked it is irrelevant to its overall quality as a film, especially as it concerns audiences overall. Most people who saw it DID like it and enjoyed the look. You not liking the look or thinking the story is no great shakes does not equate wrong or bad.
I won't declare it the best movie of the year... but I'm also not so insanely narcissistic as to wag my finger at anyone who did.
@ Cliff, take a deep breath there man.
I am am entitled to what I am saying, and I think there is logical validity to what I am saying. That bit about 4 color printing, fine, there is a basis to it, that is fine. I just don't think it works that well. And you cannot really argue that a film exists as an objectively perfect achievement separate from the audiences feelings about experiencing that film, that is just silly. But I did not say the film was bad.
And the backstory is that the studio was not sure this technique was effective. If you liked it, great for you though.
@Leeb,
No... we're saying the exact same thing. You're right... the totality of a film cannot exist isolated and excluded from audiences feelings about it and right now 94% of audiences and 97% of critics like the film, which is higher than EVERY SINGLE BEST PICTURE NOMINEE THIS YEAR. It's one of the most loved films of 2018 and if most people didn't like the look of the film that number would be lower. And sorry, but you'll trip over all the examples of Hollywood studios that thought something wasn't going to work or was going to be a disaster (either technically or artistically). Want to know a film the studio thought was going to be a spectacular disaster? Star Wars.
My biggest beef (and this is going to seem counterintuitive given my attitude here) is that I'm so f**king sick of the endless negativity that we constantly seem to be forced to swim in. It's impossible anymore for someone to just say "I love this" and have someone else come along to say, "I love it too! Let's talk about what we love about it" without someone feeling the need to enter the room, step in between them and take a big shit on the floor. Sorcerer didn't comment to debate the merits of the film. He's never SEEN the film. He simply entered a room he knew nothing about and took a shit on the rug because he has a bias against animation and wanted to insult the manbabies who would dare enjoy it.
Yes... you are entitled to what you are saying, but ask yourself what you gain from exercising that entitlement. Part of being entitled to an opinion is understanding other people are not obligated to hear it. If you were at a party talking to a small group of people about how much you all liked and admired someone and a stranger walked up uninvited and said, "Oh... THAT person? Awful. I've met better." You'd think that person was an asshole and you'd be right. If it comes to uninvited positivity vs uninvited negativity... I'll choose uninvited positivity every time. If you're coming into a thread to sprinkle a little negativity... maybe hold a beat to identify if it's for your benefit or someone else's. Are they doing it to save someone the trouble of potentially watching something they might hate despite most people liking it or are they doing it just because they think people simply MUST hear their opinion. If it's just an ego stroke... maybe people should keep it to themselves next time.
@Cliff You need to see a psychiatrist. No one is obligated to hear or care about your opinion either. You're frustrated because unfortunate beta males like yourself are the least influential members of society. I get that, and I do feel sorry for you, but you need to start applying what you're saying to your own life. If you can't handle someone disagreeing on the value of a cartoon Spiderman movie, how are you going to handle disagreements with mature adults in the real world? Are you going to act like a baby if someone says something you don't like, and have a temper tantrum then too? I'm just trying to help.
Hey @Sorcerer, Absolutely! No one is obligated to hear my opinion either, but given that my comments have been upvoted and your's have been downvoted into oblivion, I'd say your opinion is the one people are uninterested in. And I'm certainly not the one trashing and insulting people over a movie I haven't even seen. I know how to handle disagreements, but I'm also old enough to understand not everything HAS TO BE a disagreement and some people just want to shit on the floor and walk out.
Like I said... two people are talking at a party about how much they both liked and admired someone and a stranger walks up uninvited and says, "Oh... THAT person? Awful. I've never even met them, but still." You'd think that person was an asshole and you'd be right. Now take a step back and decide which person you want to be in that trio.
