Posted June 22, 2021 06:22 PM by
Vinegar Syndrome will release a standard 4K Blu-ray edition of Don Coscarelli's The Beastmaster (1982), starring Marc Singer, Tanya Roberts, Rip Torn, John Amos, and Rod Loomis. The release will be available for purchase on July 27.
Description: When he was a baby, Dar (Marc Singer, TV's 'V') was cursed by an all-powerful wizard named Maax (Rip Torn, Men in Black) to prevent him from rightfully ascending as the leader of his people. But the curse left him with a unique gift: the ability to telepathically communicate with all forms of animal life. But when Maax all but wipes out his tribe leaving Dar to fend for himself, he begins a quest of vengeance, accompanied by his animal friends, to Maax and end his reign of terror and violence. br>
Directed by legendary genre filmmaker Don Coscarelli (Phantasm, Bubba Ho-Tep) and co-starring Tanya Roberts (Sheena), John Amos (Coming to America), and Rod Loomis (Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure), THE BEASTMASTER is a thrilling mix of fantasy, action, and adventure, with touches of horror. Photographed by Academy Award winning cinematographer John Alcott (Barry Lyndon, A Clockwork Orange) and featuring incredible production design by Conrad Angone, Vinegar Syndrome Ultra brings THE BEASTMASTER to 4K Blu-ray and Blu-ray in a brand new 4K restoration!

Should make those who missed-out on the first run happy. This was a solid transfer given the circumstances of the films lost negative. Both Marc Singer and Tanya Roberts looked fit and ready to fight in their respective roles! Directed by the Man who brought you "Phantasm"!
I bought the fancy one with the slipcase. VS did an excellent job on that one. Probably one of the best packages for a movie I have ever owned. But if you are not in that sort of stuff, this one will be good too and cheaper.
My VSU copy is one of the coolest things ever, I will never part with it. This is a must buy for people that missed that version, it's the best transfer of the movie that will most likely ever exist.
This release also includes both versions of the film (original + updated special effects) on 2 standard blu-ray discs, just as the limited edition box set did.
I bought the Collector's Edition earlier this year. It's a great product...HOWEVER, the colors on the 4K are way, WAY too saturated. The Blu-ray looks more natural -- even though it's not as sharp. The 4K looks as though someone turned up the Color Setting from 50 to 75.... Oh, well. Buy it, my friends. Support physical media!
