Rudy 30th Anniversary 4K SteelBook Edition
Posted September 1, 2023 07:11 PM by
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will celebrate the 30th anniversary of David Anspaugh's classic film Rudy (1993) with a brand new 4K Blu-ray edition, which will be available for purchase on November 14th.
Description: All his life, people have told Rudy he's not good enough, not smart enough, not big enough. But nothing can stop his impossible dream of playing football for Notre Dame. From the time he's a young boy, Rudy (Sean Astin) is determined to join the Fighting Irish. But his blue collar family only laughs at his ambitions - they know Rudy will follow his father and brothers to the local steel mill. And, for four long years after high school, he does just that. But some dreams won't die, as Rudy proves when he goes to heroic, occasionally hilarious, lengths to win admission to Notre Dame. Once there, he becomes a walk-on player, serving as little more than a human tackling dummy against the starting players. Bloodied but unbeaten, Rudy wins the respect of legendary coach Ara Parseghian and the other Irish players, who give him one shot at gridiron glory. An incredible true story from the creators of Hoosiers, RUDY is an unforgettable testament to the power of dreams and the triumph of the common man.

Cool. I didn't even know there was a director's cut for Rudy. Looking forward to watching it.
It's one of my favorite football movies, and the score by Jerry Goldsmith is one of the best for any sports film.
Another one that I have not seen, and probably still won't. I have to get myself in a mood for certain films. I still just got around to seeing the first Jurassic park earlier this year!
Should've gone with a background shot featuring Touchdown Jesus instead of the blurry scoreboard on this one. Great football movie and perfect cast for this one too!
Rally sons of Notre Dame - Sing her glory and sound her fame.
Absolutely one of my top wants since the inception of the format. Day one for one of, if not the best sports movie ever made.
Here’s another new Sony 4K release from their previous 4K surveys.
I’m starting to think that we won’t see any more Columbia Classics sets with the slew of individual releases being announced.
For all those that wanted new single releases, your wishes are coming true.
@gkolb I would say they will continue to reserve the CC line for a mix of stuff that probably wouldn't sell individually with some real knockout titles that make the boxes seem like must-owns. But if they're going to stop, a trio of sets is a nice number. Five would also be good.
Day 1 for sure, love this film! And a steelbook with a director's cut?!?! YES please!!!! I hope Sony does this next year for the 30th Anniversary of Legends of the Fall.
Ok It's time for me to buy a 4k player now! I remember seeing some deleted scenes on an ESPN special airing of the movie several years ago but was never able to find them since or even discussed. There was more with Rudy in school at Holy Cross I remember. Awesome new here!
I also wish Sony would finally put out a Blu-ray release, 4K would be better of course but not holding any hope, for their film My Life (1993), since it's the 30th Anniversary for that film too. If you haven't seen it before, it stars Michael Keaton, after he was in Batman (1989) & Batman Returns (1992), & Nicole Kidman, before she was in Batman Forever (1995).
