Description: By the early 1980s, Jackie Chan's popularity made him box-office gold. Thus when, midway through filming the sequel to his hit The Fearless Hyena, Chan walked off the production to defect to rival studio Golden Harvest, producer Lo Wei opted to complete the film with the help of stunt doubles and recycled footage. The result—the tale of two lazy cousins (Chan and Austin Wai Tin-chi) who join forces to avenge the deaths of their fathers—may not be pure Chan, but there are plenty of loony pleasures (including our hero fighting an adversary with his feet!) to be had.
The ones that already have a US BD also appear to be UK-only, along with a couple others. This, rather inadequate announcement, also fails to mention that there will be a BD-only release of the Project A Collection for those of us who can't drop $100 on 2 movies that likely will enjoy a subjectively marginal upgrade in 4K, considering the nature of their cinematography.
Given the end results, it's somewhat ironic that the cover of Fearless Hyena Part II obscures the first letter of its stars name, reading: "Tacky Chan".
For anyone wondering about Vertical Limit, I compared the special features to the existing UK release and the old mone is better.
The old release has all of the features and commentary listed above for the new disc, but also included the 'Surviving The Limit' production featurette, some trailers and credits.
As the new release doesn't mention any new scan or added benefits, then go forn the old one.
I have only seen Inspector Wears Skirts 1, and it is Ok. For me it’s too much of a screwball romantic comedy thing and not enough fight scenes with Cynthia Rothrock. Her fight scenes in it are really well done though. How are the sequels? Any of them any good? Are they more comedy again for do they bring in more action than the first one had?
@callahan09: To answer your question, here's a fun anecdote: I once met Kara Hui at an official event and got her to sign a bunch of DVDs. Among them were old Shaw Brothers' kung-fu spectaculars and The Inspector Wears Skirts II (I hadn't seen any of that series at the time; I just grabbed this one in a hurry because I wanted her to sign one were she was prominently on the cover and that was the only one I had where she was). Anyway, she grabbed the pile and started signing them, commenting on the movies as she went along. She seemed super proud of her Shaw work (as she should), especially Cat vs Rat, which she had a lot of fun making, Eight-Diagram Pole Fighter, Lady is the Boss, and My Young Auntie. Then she grabbed the Inspector Wears Skirts DVD. She looked at it in disbelief for a second, then me, then she asked dumbfounded "did you buy that?!". I could tell, all the good she might have thought of my movie tastes went right out the window the moment she saw that DVD. You've been warned.
Haha that's a hilarious story @takeshi2010, thank you for sharing! I'm gonna be honest, I'm addicted to 70s thru 90s Hong Kong movies of all flavors and I'll probably buy the 3 sequel anyway, but I'm not under any delusions that they'll actually be any good haha.
Regarding the reference to a "fresh transfer" in relation to "Shock Waves", we'll have to see if further technical details are provided. Otherwise, it may be the same transfer used by the existing Blue Underground version.
