French label Gaumont has revealed that it will add five titles to its Blu-ray catalog in October. Amongst them are André Cayatte's Les risques du métier a.k.a Risky Business (1967), Ingmar Bergman's Fanny and Alexander (1982), and Edouard Molinaro's Mon oncle Benjamin a.k.a My Uncle Benjamin (1969).
Set in Sweden at the turn of the century, Ingmar Bergman's semi-autobiographical story tells of young sister and brother Fanny (Pernilla Allwin) and Alexander (Bertil Guve), whose comfortable lives change dramatically when their father dies onstage during a performance of 'Hamlet'. Their mother marries a puritanical bishop and the new family move into the bishop's draughty home, where the children are mistreated and their mother becomes consumed with regrets. The film won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film, as well as Oscars for Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design and Best Art Direction. Street date: October 16th.
In a small Normandy town, a teacher is accused of indecent assault by three students in his class. Despite his denials, he is arrested and imprisoned. The great Jacques Brel began his career as an actor with this film directed by André Cayatte. Also starring Emmanuelle Riva, René Dary, and Nadine Alari. Street date: October 16th.
The film is set in 1750 during the time of Louis XV. Benjamin is a country doctor in love with the beautiful innkeeper's daughter, Manette, but she refuses his advances until he produces a marriage contract. After suffering a humiliating practical joke and condemned to prison, Benjamin escapes with Manette, who slowly begins to realize that she prefers happiness to a marriage contract. Directed by Edouard Molinaro, and starring Jacques Brel, Claude Jade, and Bernard Alane. Street date: October 16th.
This French historical comedy/farce, loosely based on Victor Hugo's play Ruy Blas, benefits greatly from having Louis De Funes and Yves Montand in the roles of Saluste and Blaze. Saluste is a nobleman who has been exiled from court and sent to collect taxes in the countryside. Blaze is his assistant, who manages to help the overtaxed peasants behind his boss's back. When Saluste decides to resume meddling in the monarch's affairs using Blaze as his henchman, his schemes backfire badly. Directed by Gérard Oury, and starring Louis de Funès, Yves Montand, and Alice Sapritch. Street date: October 16th.
Each summer since their adolescence, the Dead MaKabés head out on what they pretentiously call a "summer tour" - a few bottom end concerts in festivals in the depths of Europe. But now in their thirties, these four friends are finding difficult to be as passionate about Black Metal and life on the road as they used to be. Directed by Martin Le Gall, and starring Julien Doré, Grégory Gadebois, and Jonathan Cohen. Street date: October 22.
