Star Trek: Enterprise - Season Two Blu-ray Detailed
Posted July 31, 2013 11:30 AM by
Paramount and CBS Home Entertainment have detailed the 6-disc Blu-ray release of Star Trek: Enterprise - Season Two. The series' second season stars Scott Bakula, Jolene Blalock, Connor Trinneer, Dominic Keating, John Billingsley, Anthony Montgomery and Linda Park, and arrives on August 20th.
Official Synopsis: In the 22nd century, a hundred years before James T. Kirk helmed the famous starship of the same name, Enterprise takes place in an era when interstellar travel is still in its infancy. Captain Jonathan Archer (Bakula) has assembled a crew of brave explorers to chart the galaxy on a revolutionary spacecraft: Enterprise NX-01. As the first human beings to venture into deep space, these pioneers experience the wonder and mystery of the final frontier as they seek out new life and new civilizations.
A centerpiece to the Season Two Blu-ray collection is the newly produced cast reunion feature, "In Conversation: The First Crew," which offers fans a look at an intimate and candid discussion with members of the main cast and recurring guest stars, who reveal their most memorable stories from the set and their favorite behind-the-scenes moments. The reunion is moderated by series co-creator/executive producer Brannon Braga.
Fans will also enjoy "Uncharted Territory," a three-part retrospective providing an inside look at the challenges faced by the writing staff and creators during the creative development of the second season, which ultimately inspired the controversial Xindi story-arc that kicks off in the season finale, "The Expanse." In addition, a collection of newly produced commentaries by cast and crew including John Billingsley ("Phlox"), writer/co-executive producer Chris Black and Mike & Denise Okuda, among others, round out the set.
The Blu-ray edition of Season Two will feature all 26 episodes and a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround track. The 6-disc set breaks down as follows:

Enterprise was mastered in HD, which is why we're getting it on Blu. DS9 was mastered in standard def, and the effects were created for that resolution. It would need the TNG treatment. Does Paramount see a profit in doing that? We'll see.
I made a huge mistake of buying Enterprise season one as I could not even get through one episode and I still haven't. Terrible series. Not one of the characters is relatable or likeable. I would never buy another obviously but wow do I hate this series.
We've pre-ordered every TNG season on bluray, and are waiting for DS9. While we love TNG, DS9 was ultimately a better show (for the most part). The Firefly bluray release showed that standard-def digital effects don't necessarily need to be re-rendered to look reasonable -- upscaling can work a fair amount of the time.
I hope they do a DS9: The Next Level sampler, at least.
I still don't understand people's love for DS9. Better than TNG??? Come on! I just can't get there. I've tried three separate times to watch DS9 all the way through, but can never make it past the first two seasons. The premise had so much promise, being on the edge of a worm hole and all, but every episode seemed to turn into Klingon this or Cardassian that. I got bored with it. And Avery Brooks' acting was horrible! People have suggested I skip ahead to the latter seasons and just watch the Dominion storyline, so maybe I'll try that (even though I feel like I'll miss crucial story and character developments).
I Netflixed Voyager all the way through and thought it was great start to finish! There were some really good, classic science-fiction ideas explored in many of the episodes. And some of the show-piece episodes like the "Year of Hell" series were fantastic!
I Netflixed Enterprise all the way through too, and also enjoyed it immensely. Sculpting whole-season storylines was a gamble, and I can understand why the decision may have isolated some viewers, but I liked where they were going with the series overall and think the network, and perhaps even the fans, just didn't give it enough time.
At any rate, I'm glad TNG and Enterprise are being ported over to Blu. I'm waiting for all seven seasons of TNG to be released so I can get them in one big mega-bundle, and will likely do the same for Enterprise's five seasons. Hopefully Amazon will have a half price Deal of the Day specials for them like they did with The Twilight Zone a couple years ago.
I also hope to see Voyager and DS9 ported to Blu as well. I'd definitely add Voyager to my collection, but my jury's still out on DS9. I'll take a cue from all you DS9 lovers and give it one more shot (skipping ahead if I get desperate). You can't all be crazy, right? I know I must be missing something!
After DS9, the Star Trek Universe started going downhill. When Voyager came out I said they could not have made a worst series. I was wrong. Behold Enterprise. They should have went ahead and made that series with Sulu as the captain of the Excelsior instead. DS9 movies should have been made after its run was over on television. Paramount dropped the ball thinking TNG crew was going to keep it going. After First Contact it should have stopped and brought on the DS9 crew.
