Journey to Space 4K Blu-ray
Posted March 23, 2016 06:57 PM by
Shout Factory will release its first 4K Blu-ray title, Journey to Space 4K, on June 7. Later this year, the label plans to add additional 4K releases of documentary films to its catalog.
There are no special features listed for this upcoming release.
Synopsis: Brilliantly narrated by film and television legend Sir Patrick Stewart, Journey To Space gives a sweeping overview of humanity's accomplishments in space, as well as our ongoing activities and future plans.
Journey To Space puts into historical context the magnificent contributions made by the Space Shuttle program and its intrepid space pioneers. It uses the most spectacular space footage – including unique views of Earth and operations in space – such as deploying and repairing the Hubble Space Telescope. It then goes on to show how the shuttle launched and assembled the International Space Station (ISS). Together, these programs have taught us how to live, build and conduct science in space. The ISS will continue operating in space until 2024, and the film shows how it is building a foundation for the next giant leaps into space, concluding with a fascinating, realistic scenario of how astronauts will actually get to Mars, live there for long durations, and then return home after a two-and-a-half-year mission.
Saw this in IMAX last month and am thrilled it's going to Blu-Ray so quickly. And yes, thank you Shout! Factory for covering all the bases the first time.
Want the 3D Blu-ray in this package. Guess this will be my first (and possibly only?) 4K Blu-ray. But, I wonder if the 3D Blu-ray might get released separately in a different country. Might have to wait to see if that is the case before possibly picking up this release.
Altho the OAR was 1.43 (standard spec for 'real' IMAX), I imagine the BD release will be cropped/reframed to 1.78 to be more esthetically-pleasing for home video screens; as with other IMAX video releases of the last few years. Even tho this includes both the 4K and 3D discs for $40, I generally find one has to pay a premium for IMAX titles especially when you factor in their typically short (45 min) running times.
I have this preordered, mainly because it is a 4k+3d disc combo. I plan to go 4k probably in about a year or two, so I was planning on buying the combo discs, but so far, everything released has either been stuff I already had, or I passed on because it didn't include the 3D version (The Martian). But Kudos to Shout Factory for being the first manufacturer to include both
