American Gigolo TV Show Coming Up

Posted October 29, 2014 06:00 PM by

ParamountParamount Television is set to produce a television adaptation of director Paul Schrader's classic film American Gigolo (1980). The series will be executive produced by Richard Gere, Lauren Hutton, and Jerry Bruckheimer (who also produced the original film). Director Schrader will contribute as an executive consultant.

"With its signature noir aesthetic, American Gigolo has remained a deeply entertaining, psychological thriller and I'm thrilled to partner with [Paramount CEO] Brad [Grey] and [Paramount TV president] Amy [Powell] on remaking it into a television series," Bruckheimer said.

Note: In the United States, the original film will be released on Blu-ray on February 24, 2015. You can see our listing of this upcoming release here. Blu-ray.com has already reviewed the French Blu-ray release of American Gigolo, courtesy of Paramount Pictures, here.

You'd think if Gere, Hutton, Bruckheimer and Paul Schrader could partner up for the TV series even in production roles it maybe the BLU ray will come with some new interviews as bonus features. It would be awesome to have Schrader do a commentary track.

I wholeheartedly agree, PB

This is a wonderful film and it would be fantastic if we had a definitive North American release of it.

Can't wait for Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight to remake Midnight Cowboy as a prime time sitcom. Probably starring Rob Schneider and Steve Zahn...

Considering Paramount lost all its TV assets in the CBS/Viacom demerger just as TV quality was taking off, this sounds like desperation to me. Though it's interesting that the ACTORS from the original film are onboard as executive producers...
