Ninja Scroll Blu-ray

Posted September 23, 2012 12:24 AM by Ryan Seiler

Sentai FilmworksSentai Filmworks has announced the long awaited Blu-ray release of Manga Entertainment's Ninja Scroll. Presented in HD for the first time, Ninja Scroll remains one of the most influential feature-length anime outside of Japan, ranking among the likes of Ghost in the Shell and Akira in terms of sheer popularity.

Originally released in 1993, Ninja Scroll is one of the earliest films to open the West's eyes to anime and animated Eastern cinema. The feature-length film tells the story of swordsman Jubei Kibagami (an homage to the Japanese folk hero Yagyu Jubei Mitsuyoshi) who, after saving a fellow Ninja, Kagero, fights his way across demon-infested ancient Japan in pursuit of a deadly immortal.

Almost twenty years after it stormed U.S. shores, western fans of the genre will finally get to experience this genre defining film in HD on December 4th.

Special features include:
  • Exclusive Director Commentary
  • Trailer and TV Spot
Warning: trailer includes mild adult content and brief nudity

I hope this will stay with the original aspect ratio. Or better yet, contain both aspect ratio like the old Manga release.

All over that. Got the DVD, got the Special Edition DVD, now the Blu-ray. Really hope it's a good remaster. Ugh, the English dub, never heard it before.

I hope the BD will have the original 1.33:1 aspect ratio and none of that cropped 1.78:1 the anniversary DVD had!

Great movie. Not sure if the blu-ray will be that much of an upgrade over the DVD. Will have to keep an eye out for reviews.
